So, it's settled, then: When I grow up, I want to be this woman:
Giovanna Cacciola is the singer for a Sicilian band called Uzeda, which I only learned about thanks to their opening for The Greatest Band Ever at Greenpoint's own Club Europa last weekend. And, no, I don't only want to be Giovanna so that I could tour with Shellac and watch Steve get changed in and out of his cute little workman's coveralls he wears while he fiddles with his gear before shows (sigh). Uzeda is downright cool in its own right. Time Out's review compared their sound to that of Shellac fronted by PJ Harvey. To which I say: not really. But just as loud and awesome.
As for the show itself, I'm not so good at the performance reviews, as you may have noticed. It takes a certain talent to get them right. What I can say is what I said to my date beforehand: Every time I see Shellac I have this moment where I think, damn, I'm so happy I could drop dead right now and be perfectly satisfied with the sum of my existence on this earth. That sentiment held true last weekend, though my date complained it went on too long. No one ever said Shellac wasn't an acquired taste.
But of course what you really want to know about is Club Europa, right?
Situated right in the heart of Polish-Occupied Greenpoint, it's a place we walk by all the time, and one of a handful of places in the neighborhood that make me wish I were Polish just so I could get inside and see what the deal is. This Village Voice article did a pretty good job of summing up its mystique. Fog machines! Black lights! (don't wear black if you go; you'll look all linty. I hope Steve didn't notice). A giant four-sided bar staffed by impossibly tall, improbably gorgeous Aryan specimens! I don't know -- as often as I go to nightclubs (as opposed to bars), which is never, I really don't have much basis for comparison. Maybe they're all like that. But the moustachioed Lech Walesa bouncer who peeked in my purse and felt up my boyfriend for weapons as we entered was exceedingly polite, which is not what one is led to expect at these scenes.
I would love to go back -- perhaps for Polish karaoke night -- but I have mixed feelings about invading the territory. Even though the club's obnoxious Web site clearly indicates a trend toward non-Polish acts and events, it still feels distinctly "theirs." After all, according to the Voice, it's "often the first place Poles go here to experience the social atmosphere of the United States." Who are we newer Greenpoint-o-philes to tamper with that?

Just to be clear, I did, indeed, enjoy Shellac, if more so Uzeda, who were quite a pleasant surprise. But it did go on a bit longer than I would have liked. Also, I will add that it never pays to be impolite to the person you are feeling up!

HI
One of the key elements that will help a person make money fast online is the business idea they end up implementing. This is clearly illustrated by a Max promotion
article that gives various case studies of entrepreneurs who make huge amounts of money fairly fast from their online venture. The article gives the example of David Miles Jr. and Kato Leonard, a pair of 20-year-olds in Louisville, who make a staggering $100,000 every month from their website.
